This is our  preferred tool for 416 uppers because the raised portion of the mandrel keeps the receiver top dead center preventing it from rolling around the mandrel, few others offer this feature, the Geissele does not offer this feature.

HK416 Setup: you’ll need to flip the raised portion of the tool end for end end and test fit your 416 upper to make sure the tool fits correctly, it needs to go into the barrel extension until the lugs on the tool engage the barrel extension, when you see that your extension is getting proper engagement, mark your mandrel with a paint pen or colored tape to indicate where the back of the receiver sits when the barrel extension is fully engaged. Tighten the bolts in the raised section of the tool then test fit your upper again to make sure you’re getting good engagement, at this point you should be all set.

The Midwest Industries Upper Receiver Rod is excellent for removing stubborn or seized barrel nuts and is designed to install muzzle devices without damaging the index pin. It is compatible with forged and billet upper receivers. The upper receiver rod can be used horizontally or vertically in a bench vise. It locks in with the barrel lug and fits tight in the receiver.
